One nice, pleasantly warm Sunday afternoon in March I decided to take my mother out for a drive. We had no particular destination in mind, but it was so good to be out in the sunshine we just drove. Our route took us down Highway 141 North. From Jonesboro, the road will take a meandering driver to Walcott and Paragould. After several miles, though, something else caught my attention. The sign, which has obviously stood since before 1968, welcomed people to worship with the Shiloh congregation.
Of course, this forced me to put on my turn signal and make a detour off the highway. This church stands in the heart of the area that was Mac and Laurel’s Shiloh community in my Shiloh books. As a matter of fact, this church is built on the sight of the original log building that served the Shiloh church family a 189 years ago, when the original settlers of the area established their church here on Crowley’s Ridge. I enjoyed going back to visit the site of the Shiloh Saga books.
